Welcome to the Kalra Research Lab.
We are a battery group focused on advancing sustainable, next-generation battery technologies and recycling. Motivated by real-world impact on both technology and society, our research spans the full spectrum—from fundamental science to applied innovation. Our key thrust areas include:
- Design and development of novel battery materials
- In-operando characterization to uncover fundamental mechanisms during battery cycling, guiding material design and enabling real-time diagnostics and screening
- Battery circularity, including recycling, upcycling, mineral extraction, and direct regeneration of spent cells.
Collaborators and funders
We are a dynamic and collaborative research group, driven by the belief that solving complex problems requires the convergence of diverse expertise and strong partnerships.
Our lab has built a robust network of collaborators across academia and national labs. We also work extensively with industry to pursue use-inspired research that addresses real-world challenges with the objective to accelerate impact. These partnerships guide our fundamental research toward practical relevance, while offering our students a holistic learning experience.
